Anthro-Inspired Shirt for $2!

A while back I saw this on http://www.anthropology.com/ and immediately hit the thrift store for a shirt to re-make:
Of course, I didn't get to it right away and the shirt sat until today.  After a few hours of a bit of trial and error here is my version, which I must say, I'm really pleased with!

The lighting was better in the bathroom than the closet, but I'm still stuck taking pictures of myself, I'm not quite ready to let O-man use my camera.

I wish I'd taken a before picture, it was a pretty non-descript shirt.  When I bought it, I thought it was a man's shirt.  However, upon closer inspection, I realized that there was a bit of tapering in at the waist and what you can't see is there are tiny stripes of pink, purple and teal right along the bigger neutral stripes/blocks.  Since it wasn't a man's shirt, there was less material to be taken out, not leaving me with much material to work with.  I cut the sleeves off at about 3/4 length and then used that material to make the ruffles.  I was looking for a material to layer with it and use as the tie belt because I knew there wasn't going to be enough.  I didn't have anything in my stash but found the ribbon and it picked up on the tiny pink stripes, so I went with it!  I did taper the waist in a bit more and curve the bottom hem up because it was just straight across, boxy looking.

I think I'll head back to their website and look for more ideas!
